DAVENPORT -- Deacon Tannie Green passed away Aug. 11, 2005 in Davenport. On May 27, 1922, Tannie was born to proud parents, Monroe and Melissa Green, of Ardmore, Okla. Tannie was one of many kids. He had worked on his father's farm and helped others in the community harvest their crops. When he reached a mature age, he took to the road. He worked as a coal miner for a while, then as a railroad employee. He later came to Rock Island and worked for the Case Company. Before retirement, he was commended for both his job performance and work as a union steward. On April 1, 1961, after two weeks of knowing each other, he married Hattie C. Cooks and completed 44 years together. After his formal Christian training, he became a deacon at Third Missionary Baptist Church where he again served his community with great pride and dignity.
