Julian Thomas Harris died Thursday, December 22 at the Keever Solace Center in Asheville. He was born March 21, 1923 in Johnston County, NC, the oldest of eleven children. During World War II, he was stationed in England with the US Army Air Force. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in engineering and spent his career in the insurance underwriting field. In retirement, he became an accomplished painter, especially of landscapes. He served on the Board of the Winston-Salem Shepherd's Center for many years and took great pride in organizing their annual book sales. He is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Sarah Hege Harris. He is survived by brothers William Talmage Harris of Salisbury and Roger Medlin Harris of Pfafftown, sisters Frances Harris Eubanks of Gilbert, SC and Audrey Faye Harris of Zebulon, son Tom Harris of Winston-Salem and Wilmington, daughter Rebecca Harris of Candler, grandsons Ethan, Caleb and Aaron Clauset and David and Stephen Harris, granddaughter Caroline Duffy, and great-grandchildren Ashling, Cade, Parker, Quinn and Alexis Clauset.
