Bertha May Dole DiGiacomo, age 91 went to be with the Lord May 16, 2014. She was born on Nov. 9, 1922 in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. She was a resident of Ossining for 76 years. She led a complete life; she was many things to many people: riveter, seamstress, wife, sister, telephone lady, landlord, mentor, friend, mom, Mina, Gram. She was also an avid traveler, reader, card player, confident, a DAR member and a Christian who lived her life for her Lord. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Peekskill. She graduated from Mercy College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1983. She retired from NY Telephone Co. after 46 years of service. Since then she has worked with her son Charles at Empress Travel & Cruises in Bedford Hills. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alberta & George Dole, her husband Charles, her brother Richard Dole, her sisters Myrtle Childs, Irene Smith, Naomi Baxter and Luna Daigneault; a daughter, Gail D. Bennett and a son Frank Evans DiGiacomo. She is survived by her son, Charles (Terry) DiGiacomo of Cortlandt Manor, her daughters: Bea (Jerry) Spann of Knoxville, Tn, Janet Tavano of Peekskill; her sister Ernestine (Bev) Opie of Ossining and 11 Grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and special family/friends: Jim O'Connor, Virginia Holderman, Michael Deagan and Jimmy Roberts. The family will receive friends on Mon. 2-4 & 7-9pm at Leach & Thomas, Inc. 32 State Street, Ossining. Pastor Dennis Burns will conduct a celebration of her life service at the First Baptist Church, 692 Highland Ave, Peekskill, NY on Tues. at 10am with interment immediately following at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her memory to the First Baptist Church's elevator fund.
