He was born in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and lived a full life, which included service in World War II in the 101 st Airborne. He jumped on D-Day, fought at "The Bulge" and received both the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. Following this, Dan trained thoroughbred race horses until July 1974, when he received Jesus Christ as his Savior. From that day on he served his Lord fervently, faithfully and fully. He pastored in Southern California and Oregon.
Dan moved to Rossville in 2003, where he has been a faithful member of New Manna Baptist Church until Friday when he moved to take up permanent residence in New Jerusalem!
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Gilbert; son, Jimmy Gilbert.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Gilbert, of Rossville; sons and daughter-in-law, Mike Gilbert, of Powell, Tenn., and Dave and Michelle Gilbert, of Los Angeles; 11 grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren.
