Beulah “Bea” May (Chapman) Avery, 91, passed away Christmas Day, December 25, 2016, at Kansas City Hospice House. Funeral services will be 10:00am, New Year’s Eve, Saturday, December 31, at Floral Hills. Burial will follow. Family will receive friends 4-6pm Friday, December 30, at the chapel. Bea was born May 17, 1925, to Christopher Dan Chapman and O’Tillie (Dietrich) Chapman, in Broughton, Kansas. She attended Hannibal Grade School and graduated from Clay Center High School. She attended nursing school and graduated in 1945, working for a period of time in the Clay Center Hospital. She met her husband, Donald Raymond Avery, on a blind date and they were married June 29, 1947. They moved to Kansas City shortly after exchanging wedding vows. Her hobbies included gardening, working in the yard, crossword puzzles and travel. Bea was preceded in death by her husband of 57 wonderful years, Donald; two infant children, her parents, two brothers and two nephews. Survivors include daughters: Susan Avery, of Raytown, MO; and Donna Hartman and her husband, Larry, of Kansas City, MO; nieces and nephews. She was a member of Raytown Christian Church. In later years, she attended Ridgeview Christian Church. Bea was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
