Greenville SC – Mrs. Anna Smith Butler, 100, 404 Ashley Ave., widow of Robert Lee Butler, died Monday [Dec 25, 1978]. Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late William Henry and Sarah Jane Free Smith. Mrs. Butler was the eldest member of the Earle Street Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Greenville Linen Service. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Alice Bivens and Mrs. Sally Johnson of Greenville; a son, J. O. Butler of Columbia; 10 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. The Index-Journal (Greenwood SC), Wednesday, December 27, 1978.
