Had to say goodbye to this old fella this morning.

You were the only male in this home for quite some time, which may explain why you always peed like a girl.

You were a cat's dog, not a dog's dog....in fact, sometimes I believe you may have been a cat trapped in a dog's body....because you HATED other dogs. Then again, other dogs really hated you first. I think they were jealous of that handsome face.

You hated water, but LOVED snow! Never had more fun than throwing a snowball for you to retrieve and watching you submerge yourself under the powder while you searched for it!

You would wait until we came home at night before you ate your dinner and drove us nuts when you wanted to go in and out of the house 20 times every night!

You would sneak up behind me in the kitchen and stick your tongue out and touch the back of my knees to say hello.

When you were anxious, you would pull all your toys out of your toy box and pile them up around us and then lay down at our feet.

Never saw a dog shed as much as you did and then look so ashamed for doing it!

When you wanted to play, you'd bring a toy over for us to play fetch with you. You learned 'keep away' pretty early on...you'd bring your toy back to be thrown again, but pull back when we reached for it, then run around with it in your mouth, only to return and try it again.

There's so much more about you and what we loved about you that we are going to miss. Which is why I know without doubt that we will NEVER get another dog again. We just can't replace you, nor would we want to.

A friend told me that buddhists believe that dogs pass on before us so that they can light our path to the afterlife with their tails. I'm not certain if that's true or not, but I like the idea of meeting you on that road.

Goodbye to the best companion we could have hoped for, I only hope we brought you as much joy.
