James [2nd] married Ella Virginia (Roosevelt) Graham (born 26 Mar 1853) on 20 June 1882 in Bay City, Bay County, Michigan. Ella was born in Michigan to Cornelius Roosevelt (31 Oct 1813 - 27 July 1878) and Elvira (Hamilton) Roosevelt (born 2 June 1820)

James died in the Naval Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.

In the 1900 U.S. Census, Ella was boarding in Brooklyn, New York.
