Kathy Marie Dearing was born in Buffalo, New York.

After receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree in Foods and Nutrition from Marygrove College in Detroit, MI, she entered the US Army as a commissioned officer. She informed her parents she was driving to California with "a friend", packed her cat in the car, and drove until she reached The Presidio of San Francisco. There, she completed her Dietetic Internship at Letterman General Hospital and became a Registered Dietician.

She met her husband in San Francisco, married in 1966, and transferred to Silas B. Hayes Hospital in Fort Ord in 1967.

She proudly served her country for six years and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain six days before the birth of her first child.

Kathy was the Food Service Director of Monterey Peninsula Unified School District for twenty years.

Eighteen years ago she discovered her true joy, tax preparation while working for H & R Block. She was studying to become an enrolled agent.

Kathy's adventurous spirit led her all over the world. She was fearless, embraced life, adored her family and many dear friends, her home, garden, and kitten, Lulu.

Kathy's life ended tragically when she was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Pine Avenue in Pacific Grove.

She is survived by her children; Heidi (Tony) Payan of Pebble Beach and Eric (Jessica) Lendewig of Orangevale. She leaves nine grandsons: Anthony and Gabriel Payan, and Hagen, Brady, Mason, Colin, Liam, Logan and Joran Lendewig.

A mass and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 5 at 2:00 PM at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 301 Corral de Tierra Road (off Hwy 68), Salinas, 93908.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, 21 Lower Ragsdale Drive, Suite B, Monterey, 93940.
