Niel Maston Larson, 77, returned home December 30, 2016 after a long struggle with a pulmonary illness.
He was born to David Nels Larsen and Nettie Loretta Forge on March 13, 1939, the fifth of five children. He was raised in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High in 1957. On March 15, 1958 he married Mary Elaine Crane. They have 3 children, 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for time and all eternity in 2010. He and Elaine served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nauvoo, IL.
He worked for a short time on the Union Pacific Railroad and for Purina Mills. He then was hired by JR Simplot Don Plant (Simplot) in Pocatello. He retired from Simplot after 39 years. Over the years Niel and Elaine lived in Pocatello, McCammon and Pingree. To be closer to family they returned to McCammon where they currently reside.
His favorite pastime was raising, showing and driving his draft horse teams. He was a member of the Intermountain Draft Horse and Mule Association for many years. He also enjoyed horseback riding, snowmobile riding and other outdoor activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Nels and Nettie Larsen; sister, Ruby Larsen; brother, Dave Larsen; sister, Thelma Trout; great-granddaughter, Macy Foster; nephew, William Trout; and brother-in-law, Wayne McNeilly.
He is survived by his eternal wife, Mary Elaine; daughter, Judy Foster (Jack Jr.); son, W Shane Larson (Cheryl); daughter, Kathy Poitra (J.C.); grandchildren, Kevin (Mandi) Foster and Amanda ( Derrick) Tripp, Wyatt Larson, Amber (Logan) Hess, Justin (Jessicca) Larson, Aaron (Melani) Larson, Travis (Sara) Larson, Ryan and Sarah Larson, Sarah C. Larson, Steven Poitra, Shayla (Dillon) Rice, Dwana (Kenny) Campbell; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 12 Noon at the LDS McCammon Mt. View Ward Chapel, 403 W. 16th St. McCammon, ID 83250, with a viewing for one hour prior.
Burial will follow at the Norton Cemetery.
