Nola Woodland Wallace

Nola Woodland Wallace, 94, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016. Nola was born August 25, 1922 to Minerva Christensen & Orville Woodland in Arimo, Idaho. Nola's father died when she was 7 months old, leaving Nola and her mother to fend for themselves. They traveled all over S.E. Idaho wherever work could be found. She distinctly remembered the vold of St. Anthony where her mother worked at the pea factory.
She started her operatic career early-age 11- taking the bus into Pocatello for voice lessions. She continued to sing on the community, performing at weddings, funerals & other occasions. She soloed with BYU & later USC and performed at the Hollywood Bowl & Groman's Chinese Theater.
Lew, her future husband, followed her down to California to continue their courtship. They were married on March 20, 1945 in the SLC Temple. They had four children: Hanna, Nena, Robert & Brian. In 1972, a "new" daughter was "adopted" - Marlene Troch, a foreign exchange student from Belgium.
Nola held many church callings over the years, including Relief Society President, cub scout den leader & culteral refinement instructor.
At age 40, she returned to college earning her masters in English Literature. Nola was insatiable in her quest for knowledge, continuing to study the world's history, music & religion, to name just a few. She was also a sculptor, a writer and a poet.
Maybe the trait that most accurately represents her is her generosity. If someone, anyone had a need, and she could help, she did, she did not want credit or recognition. She loved her family very much - her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. There wasn't anything she wouldn't legally do for them. She was an unwavering example of integrity & fairness and a strong believer in the potential and the good in all individuals.
She returned home to her loving Heavenly Father in the wee hours of Dec 28, 2016. She will be sorely missed.
Nola was preceded in death by her parents Orville & Minerva, husband Lew & great-granddaughter Eternity. She is survived by: daughters Hanna, Nena & Marlene, sons Robert (Elaine) & Brian (Megan), grandchildren Brett (Dana), Reili (Karl), Ian (Ariel) & Eileen (Michael) and great-grandchildren Sydnee, Seren, Saydee, Lorelai, Kayden, Alexis, Eli & Ronan.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3 at 11 a.m. In the Arimo LDS Stake chapel. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
