Note: no death or burial record has been found for Mary, though she was living in 1741 when named in her husband's will. There is no reason to believe that she would be buried anywhere other than beside her husband. Previous references to her marrying Rev. Jacob Bacon following her husband's death appear to be incorrect. The Mrs. Mary Wood who married Rev. Bacon was MUCH younger than this Mary, and b. about 1717 (see the FAG memorial for Rev. Jacob Bacon (1706-1787) in Plymouth)

Mary was baptized in Rowley, Mass. 27 June 1680, the daughter of John Spofford and Sarah Wheeler of Rowley. She married David WOOD, the son of Daniel Wood and Sarah Andrews of Topsfield and Boxford, Mass. The printed Boxford Vital Record gives the date of the marriage intention as 5 Feb, but the original handwritten record gives the date as 15 Feb. The actual marriage date has not been found. Mary and David had seven known children.

This Mary, the daughter of John and Sarah Spofford, did NOT marry John Hartshorn (in 1707 or 1709, based on two different records), as claimed in an early Spofford genealogy. John Hartshorn was a much older man, born about 1650, and Mary Spofford was his third wife. She was likely a widow, and in fact may have been Mary Liton, the widow of Thomas Spofford, who died in 1706.
