James E. Miles, age 87 passed away peacefully at home in Bellingham on May 1, 2011. He was born September 11, 1923 in Sumas to Ernest and Ruth Miles. Jim graduated from Mt. Baker High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabees during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He retired as Head Communications Operator after 27 years with Seattle City Light in Diablo, WA. Jim enjoyed playing golf at Lake Padden, fishing, hunting, and shooting pool. He was active in politics and always had campaign signs in his yard. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and an active grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Margaret. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Shirley, son Jerry Miles, daughters Linda Lundberg and Barbara (Duane) Moerke, step-daughters Marcia (Bill) Dorn, Marie (Kel) Erickson and Marilyn (Kelly) Stamm, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, brothers Keith (Donna) Miles and Larry (Dorcas) Miles. The family wishes to thank Jim's loving caregivers, Carla, Felicity, Gina, Dave, Nate, Carol, and Chris. A memorial gathering will be held at the family home on Fri., May 6th at 1 PM.
