She was born on November 13, 1920 in Swan Creek, Illinois to George H. and Bertha Matthews Willard. She married Paul E. Smith in Galesburg or August 26, 1951. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2004.
Mary Alice is survived by two sons, Ronald Lee (and Debra) Smith of Bloomington, Illinois and Gregory Paul (and Deborah) Smith of Galesburg; a daughter, Deborah Ann (and Randy) Cimei of Williamsfield, Illinois; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, a brother, W. Gerald Willard; a sister, Martha Wolf.
She was a secretary for Dr. Duff and Dr. List and then for Community School District 205, retiring in 1983. She was a 1937 graduate of Avon High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Galesburg, a member of the American Legion Post #2385 Auxiliary and a member of the Moose Lodge #115 Auxiliary.
Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 pm Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Private family services will follow with the Pastor Mary Runge officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Nursing Home. Online condolences may be left at www.h-p-w.com.
