Mrs. Bates was born in Marion the daughter of the late Roland O. and Alice L. (Barnes) Randall Sr. She attended Marion public schools and graduated from Wareham High School. Mrs. Bates worked for many years at Star Jewelers in Wareham. She was also a member of the Emblem Club of Wareham serving as president and then supreme marshall on the National Level. She will be remembered by all for her love of butterflies and her passion for sewing. It was almost impossible to leave her home without a homemade project tucked under your arm. In her later years she made baby quilts for babies born with HIV or addicted to drugs in hospitals.
She is survived by her daughters: Dale Hale and her husband Douglas of Wareham, Debra A. Bates Washburn of Plymouth, a brother Walter Randall of Wareham, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three great great-grandchild as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, at 12:15 p.m. in the Wareham Village Funeral Home, 5 Center St. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visitation with the family will be from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, 1 Bennington Ave., Bourne
