Merkel Services Scheduled Monday for Mrs. Pannell

Merkel, Jan. 26 - Mrs. Dovie Gwen Pannell, 67, died at 10:45 a.m. Saturday in the Starr Rest Home in Merkel. She had been confined to her bed for several years.

Mrs. Pannell was born in Georgia and moved to this vicinity as a young girl. She married A. J. Pannell in 1905 and had lived in Canyon, Compere and Merkel since that time. Mr. Pannell died in October, 1954.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church in Merkel with Rev. Melvin Byrd, pastor of the Temple Baptist Church in Abilene, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel.

Survivors include five sons, William Andrew of Houston, Paul of Irving, Jack of Wichita Falls, Guinn and Dan, both of Abilene; four daughters, Mrs. A. K. Zercher of Dallas, Mrs. C. M. Autrey of Kilgore, Mrs. G. V. Gant of Lancaster, and Mrs. Miles Fox of Abilene; five sisters, Mrs. Frank Demere of Merkel, Mrs. Sherman Latrigue of Rosemeade, Calif., Mrs. Robert Kelso of Beaumont, Calif., and Mrs. William Cannon and Mrs. Etta Zachery, both of San Antonio; one brother, Jack Moore of Beaumont, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
