Harold C. Walter, 89, Hollidaysburg, died early Monday morning at Altoona Center for Nursing Care.
He was born in East Freedom, son of the late David Park and Olive Susan (Simmington) Walter.
He married Mary Jane Mentzer on March 13, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 2016.
Surviving are three children: Nancy Drobnoek of Altoona, Gary Walter (Blenda) of Commerce, Texas, and Harold William Walter (Pam) of Plano, Texas; eight grandchildren: Christine, Jason and Tracy Drobnoek, Skyler, Christian, Devin and Tammy Walter and Tara Cooley; and 10 great-grandchildren: Sophia, Ryder, Damian, Arien, Tripp, Jason, Jade, Hazel, Jacob and Lily.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Willodene Alkire; and a brother, James Walter.
Harold was a 1945 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1945-48. He worked for A&P for 38 years, retiring in 1986. He then worked as an assistant for Clifford Ramsey Construction for many years.
Harold enjoyed gardening, going for walks and spending time with his grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home Inc., 1218 Fourth Ave., Duncansville, where military honors will be accorded by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.
Interment will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Altoona.
After the service, friends will also be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the home at 1002 Maple Ave., Hollidaysburg.
