She married Herman Phillip Richert, the son of William & Mary Ann Ferock Richert, on March 27, 1913, also in Newton County.
On August 16, 1913, while her former husband, D.L. Brady, was working, a portable engine exploded and he was killed, instantly. A few years later, her marriage to H.P. Richert ended in divorce.
Zelia married John R. Biddle on February 14, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Bazzell & Sarah Cowan Biddle, the widower of Armecie Lidster Biddle and the father of Julia Ann, Arminta and Charles Robert Biddle. On October 20, 1924, Mr. Biddle was found dead. After an inquest, the coroner ruled that J.R. Biddle's demise was the result of "a gun shot, probably accidental".
Given the age difference, the marriage may have already raised some eyebrows in the community. Although the legal system had cleared Zelia, and her son, of any wrong-doing, the court of public opinion isn't held to as high of a standard. To this day, many are suspicious of the circumstances surrounding Mr. Biddles' death.
Zelia married James M. Brady, the son of Joseph & Belle Bauer Brady, on August 1, 1925 in Danville, Indiana. The couple, along with A.J. Brady, moved to Indianapolis. This marriage did not last. By the time of her passing, Zelia was divorced and she had her former married surname of Biddle restored.
A 1937 Hammond Times newspaper account of her son's life reported that, prior to Ms. Biddle's death, she had requested that those present "Take care of Alfred. He is a nice boy-and a good boy-but he's so easily led".
