Gavin Wesley Bush, 17, of Sioux City, lost his courageous battle with addiction and entered eternal life with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7th, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Gerald Kapanka and Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery immediately after with a luncheon at Calvary Lutheran Church to follow.
Gavin was born June 1, 1999 in Sioux City; he was the son of Josh and Stacey (Hansen) Bush. Gavin grew up in Sioux City and graduated from North High School in December of 2016. He participated in cross country and track at North High. Gavin was a big influence and brought great energy to his teammates and classmates.
Gavin had an amazing work ethic that starting with mowing lawns in the Leeds area at the young age of eleven. He drove a lawn tractor that would pull a trailer and would never quit. Gavin worked hard all of his life. He worked with Holland Lawn Care, Green Space Lawn Care and Terrain Technologies before starting his own business as the owner and operator of Four Season Lawn Care and Snow Removal. Nothing made Gavin happier than a green lawn with straight lines or 6 inches of snow to blow off of a sidewalk.
He was baptized, confirmed and was a current member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Gavin enjoyed working, running, listening to music and shopping. More than all of that, he loved spending time with his friends—making them laugh, working with them and just simply being there when they needed him. He loved his brothers and sisters deeply.
Gavin was a giver. He loved giving gifts to others and had the most generous soul. His gentle smile and quiet manner could melt the hearts of those around him. He didn’t have to say a word; his voice and thoughts could always be heard. We will miss him every day, especially his beautiful smile and he will forever remain in our hearts. Our family created wonderful memories with Gavin and it has been a privilege to love him during his days on earth. Gavin’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of life far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.
Survivors include his parents Josh and Stacey Bush of Sioux City; his brothers and sisters: Savannah, Rylee, Ethan, Emma and Porter all of Sioux City; his maternal grandparents Lou and Jan Hansen of Sioux City; his paternal grandparents Alvin and Peggy Bush of Sioux City; his aunts and uncles Cindy (Hansen) Camarigg (Dan) of Sioux City, Wendy (Hansen) Cates (Michael) of Overland Park, KS, Ryan Hansen of Sioux City, Melissa Bush (special friend Jeremy Gibbs) of Sioux City, Melinna (Bush) Potter of Sioux City, Michelle (Bush) Hahn (Mark) of Sioux City; as well as numerous cousins and many great aunts, uncles, and Great Grandmother.
Gavin was preceded in death by his great grandparents.
