Word of the death of Elijah Foster Iles, member of one of Sangamon county's oldest families was received in this city yesterday. Mr. Iles died Sunday at the home of his son, Frank B. Iles, at Farmington, N. M. He was a son of Washington Iles, a pioneer Sangamon county farmer and a nephew of Major Elijah Iles, one of the first settlers of the land now occupied by Springfield. The remains will arrive tomorrow morning. Interment will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery.

The decedent was born Feb. 18, 1838, in this city, the son of Washington and Anna (Foster) Iles. Elijah Iles on October 6, 1863, married Mildred Steele in Lincoln county, Mo. The couple made their home south of Springfield for many years. Recently Mr. Iles had been residing with his son, Frank, his wife having preceded him in death. He is survived by four sons, Malcolm, Springfield; Frank B., Farmington, N. M., Lewis and Thomas. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, 12-25-1925
