Rose Martin, 95, Drake, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

Rose Heintz, daughter of Ludwig and Christine (Keller) Heintz, was born August 5, 1921 on her parents farm south of Balfour. She grew up in the Blumenfeld area north of Drake where she attended country school.

On October 21, 1940 she was united in marriage to Emil Martin at Blumenfeld. They made their home and farmed southeast of Drake until 1948 when they moved into Drake. They operated the Silver Bar in Drake until 1978. Following Emil’s death on December 18, 1995, Rose continued to reside in Drake until moving to Rugby in 2013.

She was a member of St. Margaret-Mary Catholic Church of Drake and the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the David D. Nehrenberg American Legion Auxiliary of Drake.

Rose enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, fishing and camping. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Shirley (Paul) Schaefer of Decatur, IL, Ralph (Betty) Martin of Minot, James Martin and Wayne (Betty) Martin all of Seattle, Tim (Wanda) Martin of Washburn and Allen (Lorri) Martin of Drake; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; sister, Theresa Streifel of Great Falls, MT; and 2 brothers, Martin and Christ Heintz both of Rugby.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; her son, Stanley; one great-grandchild; her parents; 2 sisters, Betty Volk and Marjorie Bennett; and 3 brothers, Joe, John and Tony Heintz.

Funeral: Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret-Mary Catholic Church in Drake. Visitation: Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the church.

Prayer Service: Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the church.

Burial: St. Margaret-Mary Catholic Cemetery in Drake. Arrangements with Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.
