Obituary

Bertha Maude, second daughter of Jesse A and Ida M Lowdenback, was born October 11, 1894, and departed this life January 4, 1907, aged 12 years, 2 months and 24 days. One sister preceded her to the celestial home. She leaves a father, mother, three brothers and two sisters besides a host of other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. But their loss is her eternal gain.

While we mingle our tears in this sad hour, when this young life, so full of promise, has been cut down like a flower, we mourn not as those who mourn without hope.

Bertha was a loving disposition always kind and affectionate at home and school. She was a favorite with both teacher and pupils. She was a diligent pupil, always standing at the head of her class. Her life was one of spotless purity, filled with deeds of kindness that shall never be forgotten.

Bertha has gone from among us, but the memory of one so loving we shall cherish until the boatman shall summon us to that land beyond. She will be greatly missed at school, but most of all, in the home. The family circle is again broken, yet what a blessed assurance we have that Bertha is at rest.

On the morning that she died, she called her parents, brothers and sisters around her bedside and calmly bade them farewell, and with the resignation of a Christian she sweetly prayed, “O, Jesus, save me.” Then father, mother, little brothers and sisters, you may so live that when the summons comes you may meet Bertha in that land where farewell tears are never shed and partings are unknown. Therefore, let us leave her in the hands of the loving Savior, who redeemed her with His own precious blood.

Thou were not formed for living here,
For thou art kindred with the sky;
Yet we beheld thee all so dear,
We thought thou were not formed to die.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev Hufford before a large congregation at Nameless Creek church. Interment at Simmons Cemetery. W. R. Redick
