Raymond served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart for his heroism. During his working days, he was a coal truck driver for Buzzo’s and worked at Petite Mining Company. In his spare time, he enjoyed music and playing his guitar, tinkering with broken small engines to fix them, and spending time with his family.
Raymond is survived by his daughters: Pamela Sanders and her husband Terry of Masontown, Patricia Johnson and her husband Rick of Masontown, Mary Cottrell and her husband Michael of Morgantown; a son-in-law Eddie Alkire; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; a brother George Burns; his longtime companion, Jean Carmody; and his canine companion Memphis.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Burns, who died in 1984; his daughter Diane Alkire; and one great-grandchild.

Friends are invited to gather in support of the family at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Morgantown on from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Monday and on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service with Donna Dalton officiating. Burial will follow at Arnettsville Cemetery with graveside military honors conferred by the Masontown VFW Post # 1589 and the WVANG Funeral Honors.
