Samuel Hans Graves

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at Eugene Faith Center for Samuel "Serenity Sam" Graves of Eugene, who died July 26 of cancer. He was 77.
He was born June 9, 1933, in Stutzman County, N.D., to Henry and Jennie Thompson Graves. He married Vivian Kietzle on Dec. 14, 1956, in James­town, N.D.
He graduated James­town High School in 1951. He served the Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a drug and alcohol counselor and was a co-founder of Serenity Lane in Eugene. He worked at Serenity Lane for 25 years as long-term treatment director. He was also director of outreach services and launched the family program. He became an interventionist when he retired in 1998.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, three daughters, 10 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
