Mary B. Konstanty, 90, passed away peacefully at home with her children by her side on Wednesday, April 25, 2007.

She was born November 15, 1916 in Worcester, NY, the daughter of Menzo and Elizabeth Ann (Gage) Burlingame.

Mary was a graduate of Worcester Central School, Class of 1934. She continued her education at Albany State College graduating in 1938 with a Bachelors of Arts in Education and was a member of Phi Delta. Mary was a History teacher in St. Regis Falls, NY from 1939 to 1941.

On May 29, 1941 she married C. James Konstanty in Albany. Mary was a dedicated wife and mother. She fully supported Jim in his life of professional baseball, for which Jim was best known as the relief pitcher with both the Philadelphia Philly’s (1950 National League MVP) and the NY Yankees. “Fireman Jim” credited his amazing change up and slider to a collaboration with his off season battery mate, the famous Worcester, NY undertaker Andy Skinner.

From 1947 to 1974, Jim and Mary co-owned Jim Konstanty’s Sporting Goods store in Oneonta. As a result of her love of history, she became an antique dealer and opened Konstantyques in Oneonta in 1976 till present time.

Mary enjoyed growing up in Worcester and after Jim’s baseball career the family chose to settle in Worcester. Mary and Jim enjoyed traveling, especially to ski in Colorado. She loved spending the summers on Otsego Lake. Her interest in sports began in school where she participated on the winning girls high school basketball teams of 1932-1934 and continued throughout her life. She loved being a spectator at her husband's, children's, and grandchildren's games. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed music, the arts, family genealogy and history. She was instrumental in organizing the annual Walrath Family Reunion in Cooperstown.

Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church Elizabeth Circle in Oneonta; the Oneonta Chapter NSDAR, P.E.O., Oneonta Federated Garden Club, Friends of Swart-Wilcox House Museum, Greater Oneonta Historical Society, and a former 30-year member of the Otsego County Republican Committee.

She is survived by her son, James Edward Konstanty and his wife, Irene of Oneonta; her daughter, Helen K.B. Rees and her husband, David of Oneonta; grandchildren, James J. and wife, Maribeth Konstanty of Fairfield, CT and their children, Jackie and Jim; Daniel J. and wife, Lori Konstanty of Melrose, MA and their children, Grace and Joseph; Jared A. and wife, Kelly Konstanty of Mashpee, MA and their children, Andrew J. and Colin; Kristen E.
