Nannie “Nan” Rea Hubbard Kelly, of San Antonio, Texas passed away at the age of 76 years on January 10, 2017 at her home.
Nan was born November 5, 1940 in Hagerman, Texas. She came from a large family of three brothers and five sisters that were born to John William Hubbard, Sr. and Leona Burleson Hubbard.
Nan was “Nana” but was really a “second mother” to her grandchildren. Her granddaughter, Clara Beth said, “She was the best grandma ever!” She attended their birthday parties and her grandsons baseball games religiously. She was their biggest fan. (With Nan you always felt like she was your biggest fan.) She was never one to miss a family gathering. She recently went on a four-day trip to the Frio River and had a great time. She floated the river with her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, sister-in-law, nephew and her great nieces and nephews.
Nan worked at Color Spot Nursery for thirty years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Castroville. Nan especially loved the church “kitchen crew” and the “Tuesday Night Life Group” that was always active for church functions. She was very encouraging and supportive of them.
On March 17, 1962 she married Jack Charles Kelly in Perryton, Texas. Together they raised two children and were married for over 43 years at the time of Jack’s death in 2005.
Her parents, John Sr. and Leona Hubbard and her husband, Jack Charles Kelly, Sr. have preceded her in death as well as two brothers, Ray Hubbard and John W. Hubbard, Jr. and three sisters, Una Lea Gann, Ida Mae Wiggins and Illa Fae Booth.
Survivors include her son, Jack Charles Kelly, Jr and wife Christine of San Antonio; daughter, Kathy Lynn Kelly of San Antonio; grandchildren, Clara Beth Kelly, Jack Charles Kelly III and Campbell Allen Kelly; great grandchildren, Sophia Rose Kelly and Kaylin Gale Cromer; brother, Dwight Hubbard and wife Lana Kay of De Soto; sisters, Orvilla Evans of Memphis, Mary Miller and husband Cubby of Memphis; sister-in-law, Pat Hubbard of Houston; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Nan’s Life will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Castroville, 1408 Alsace Ave., Castroville, TX 78009.
