From Lewiston Evening Journal, 31 Dec 1934:

"Fishermen Believed Drifting Off Coast -
Lockeport, Nova Scotia Fleet Sets Commerce Aside to Join Search"

Setting commerce aside, the Lockeport fleet set sail today in search of three fishermen believed to be drifting in two dories off the southern Nova Scotia Coast.

Driven by a gale, the schooners put into port yesterday with sad news. The Marian Emily reported Alfred Doucette of Wedgeport had been lost. The Dot and Hellie report Andrew Doucette and N. Boudreau lost in a dory, and the Lucille M. described Samuel Coutreau [sic] in a similiar plight - alone.

Both the Dot and Hellie and the Lucille M. searched all Saturday night for the missing men, returning to port only because of necessity.

Alfred Doucette was drowned when a dory capsized at sea under the bow of the Marian Emily. John Erskine, a dorymate, was rescued by Captain Alex Blade.

The three-master Nova Queen, homeward bound from Turks Island with a cargo of salt, was believed safe and may slip in Yarmouth harbor in a few days.
