Gran was one of the most loving, caring, and kindest individuals you could have known. She was spunky, funny, loving, and all around an amazing human being. Cooking was a favorite we did together and we always made a huge deal out of Thanksgiving and Christmas. She made the best chicken and dressing and always had a pie on the table during the holidays. She used to make candy, cakes, cookies, and pies to share with the employees of my grandfather's business as well as our family. Never did anyone go hungry in her house!
As she got older and sicker, she wasn't able to do as much in the kitchen, but it didn't stop her from trying. She bought her self a comfortable stool and would sit at the sink or the stove. Her favorite spot to sit was at the bar overlooking the kitchen stove where she would call out "direction" as I cooked.

She loved watching the birds, especially the family of robins who had recently made themselves at home (and invited friends!), the purple martins, and cardinals. Animals of all kinds, even the rabbits and squirrels, were allowed to come eat their fill in the yard.

For years she battled type 2 diabetes and heart disease, which lead to kidney failure and dialysis for just over a year before she passed away at home on hospice care. She fought a hard and long battle, facing COPD, impaired lungs, and multiple hospital stays. Throughout it all, she was the same strong woman we loved.
