Harold Vernon Aiken, 93, passed away on January 7, 2017 in Jacksonville Florida. Harold was born in Asheville, North Carolina on February 15, 1923 to parents Harold & Kate Aiken. Harold is survived by his wife of 73 years, Marian Aiken. Harold was the proud father of Katy Kearson of Orange Park, FL., and Harold Aiken, Jr, (Faye} of Plantation FL. Harold is also survived by his grandsons, Clayton Kearson, Michael Kearson (Laura), Chris Aiken, Keith Aiken, great grandchildren Zoe and Liam Kearson and his sister Audrey Garrison of Palm Coast.
Mr. Aiken honorably served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a First Lieutenant in the 495th Bomber Squadron where he piloted missions in the European Theater. After the war, with the benefit of the G.I bill, he attended the University of Florida where he graduated Magna Cum Lauda with a Masters of Engineering degree. Following graduation, he settled his family in Jacksonville where he built a 50-year professional career as a highway engineer with RS&H.
Funeral services will be at 10:30am on Friday January 13, 2017 at Jacksonville National Cemetery with the Reverend John Diller of the Orange Park Presbyterian Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Harold's name to Alexander Chapel, Weaverville, N.C.
