Joy C. Duren, 80, of Columbia passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 22, at First Christian Church, 101 N. Tenth St. The family requests you wear purple to the service to celebrate Joy's life and love of color.

Joy was born March 13, 1931, in Howard County to Richard and Opal Hughes Copeland. She married Billy J. Duren in 1950, and he preceded her in death in 1999.

Joy was a homemaker and also gave much of her time to her church, the Columbia Area Senior Center and various community activities. She was up for fun, whether it be camping or square dancing, but was most comfortable spending her days on the farm and her evenings sitting in the porch swing with Bill and watching the world go by.

She is survived by one son, Steve (Deb) Duren of Columbia; two granddaughters, Heather (Jeff) Stubbs of Columbia and Kerri (Matt) Burrows of Whiteman Air Force Base; two great-granddaughters, Ainsley Stubbs and Annabelle Burrows; her brother, Richard (Jean) Copeland of Fayette; and sister Lila Lawson of Fayette.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sondra J. Duren; and brother in-law Harmon Lawson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Sondra J. Duren Memorial Scholarship in care of Columbia College, 1001 Rogers St., Columbia, Mo., 65216, or to the First Christian Church, 101 N. Tenth St., Columbia, Mo., 65201.
