The church registers of St. John's Lutheran in Racine give two different places of birth for Ferdinand Kautz.
Between 1891-1898, all of the baptism entries for the couple's children state invariably that he was from "Mednik, Pommern." This may have been the result of the pastor copying all of the essential information from one entry to the next. However, in the first baptism recorded in Volume 2, in 1901, his birth place is given as "Konzow, Pommern."
"Mednik" may be either:
1. "Vorwerk Medenick" (the outlying estate of Medenick), in the municipality of Reddentin, Schlawe district, or
2. the hamlet of Medenick, in the muncipality of Krien, Stolp district.
"Kunzow" may be:
1. the hamlet of Kuntzow, in the municipality of Breechen, Greifswald district
2. the municipality of Kuszow, Stolp district, or
3. the hamlet of Kunsow-Kotlow, in the municipality of Wendisch Plassow, Stolp district.
More information than what is currently available is needed to isolate his place of birth and the parish of his baptism.
