OBITUARY :
RAY A. BAKNER, 81, of 8643 Capitol Hill Road, Waynesboro, died at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 1994, in Waynesboro Hospital. He was in failing health for the past several years and critically ill for the past two weeks.

Born Feb. 21, 1913, in Quincy Township, he was the son of the late James A. and Rosetta "Rosie" Belle (Whitmore) Bakner. He lived all his life in the same area.

Mr. Bakner served in the Calvary 104th Infantry.

He and his wife, Mary M. (Haugh) Bakner, were married Aug. 26, 1933. They lived at the present residence since their marriage.

Mr. Bakner learned the machinist trade while working at Frick Co., Waynesboro, in his early life. Prior to retiring in 1977, he was a machine operator at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro.

He attended the Fairview Chapel Church on Capital Hill, Waynesboro.

He was a member of the Waynesboro Fish and Game Association and was an avid fisherman and hunter all his life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six daughters, Lois L. Rock and Mary L. Goodreau, both of Pond Bank, Frances G. Wagaman, Lucinda E. Wise, and Faye E. Quackenbos, all of Waynesboro, and Eunice R. Stultz of York Springs; one son, Ray Eugene Bakner of St. Thomas; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great
granddaughter, five sisters, Alice Koons, Matilda Newcomer and Arlene Moore, all of Waynesboro, Mildred Diffenbaucher, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and Flo Lowry of Mont Alto; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with Pastor Robert Fitz officiating. Burial will be in Quincy Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Waynesboro Bible Church, 8216 Stottlemyer Road, Waynesboro.
