Sadly, we announce the death on January 4, 2017 of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Myron Gire, Jr.

He was born March 31, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio to Myron (Sr.) and Alice (Zickafoose) Gire.

The family moved to Cincinnati where Myron graduated from Clifton High School in 1954 and attended the Ohio State University for one year.

Myron served in the Air Force and then returned to Cincinnati and graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1963 with a Bachelor's degree in marketing. He was a proud member of the Beta Nu Chapter of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

He met his future wife at the University, Katharine Briggs, who was attending law school there. The Gires moved to California the day after their wedding in November 1963 and Myron worked at Aerojet-General on a brand new addition to the company called a computer!

He later moved on with computers for the California Secretary of State office, the Department of Consumer Affairs, and the Student Aid Commission.

The Gires have lived in Placer County since 1970. They raised Thoroughbred horses at their Oakfair Farm in Loomis for many years and also resided in Granite Bay for 11 years before choosing Sun City Lincoln Hills for their residence in 2011. Myron served as President of the Sacramento Horseman's Association, member and chairman of the Loomis MAC, and president of the Roseville Round House Model Railroad Club.

Myron and Kathy loved cruising and chose that way to see the world. Myron loved his family and was proud to be "Papa" to 10 grandchildren. Myron is survived by his wife Kathy of 53 years, children Rebecca (Mike) Pahl; Jennifer Gire Magleby; Morgan (Alissa) Gire; and grandchildren Lindsay, Hunter (Alexandra) and Tanner Pahl; Mason, Max, Hannah and Sarah Magleby; Truman, Hudson and Griffin Gire.

A celebration of Myron's life will take place on Wednesday, January 18, at 11:00 AM in the ballroom at Orchard Creek Lodge in Sun City Lincoln Hills.
