BUTLER, CHARLES FRANCIS (AGE 86)

On Thursday, August 26, 2004 of Takoma Park, MD died peacefully at his son's home in Mundelein, IL after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. on October 14, 1917. A World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army from August 1942 to November 1945, and retiring from the U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Division, June 30, 1974. Charles was predeaceased by his wife and soulmate of more than 56 years Mary Elizabeth (Adams) Butler of Providence, RI, his parents, Ottoway Nervus Butler and Obereta Lyles Butler and his brothers, Ottoway Butler, Jr. and Hugh L. Butler. He leaves behind his son, Charles F. (Suzann) Butler, Jr. of Mundelein, IL and a daughter, Joan Elizabeth (Wilfred) Holloway of Mitchellville, MD. Charles and Mary have seven grandchildren, Charles F. Butler III, Christopher S. Butler, Shannon E. Butler, Bernard A. Holloway, Adam L. Butler, Nicholas C. Holloway and Anthony E. Butler, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends to celebrate Charles' life at a wake to be held on Thursday, September 2, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at MCGUIRE FUNERAL HOME, 7400 Georgia Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C. and on Friday, September 3, 2004 at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, 7707 Allentown Rd., Ft. Washington, MD from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment follows immediately at Rock Creek Cemetery, Rock Creek Church Rd. and Webster St., Washington, D.C. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
