Ruth was the 5th of six children born to William Hackett Taylor and Annie Allen (Merritt) Taylor.

Her middle name "Emeline" was the first name of her maternal grandmother.

As a small child, Ruth posed for and appeared in a magazine Ad for Whitman's Chocolates.

In 1926 she married Thomas J. McAndrews in Philadelphia. They had one child, a daughter, Ruth in 1928. Sometime prior to 1930, Thomas died of unknown causes.

Ruth, now a widow, remained living in Philadelphia with her daughter.

Joseph died at age 96 in 2001.
