Diane was the daughter of Leonard and Cecil Ackerman. She had one dearly loved younger brother, Douglas, all of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her nephew Tim and his mother Wanda.

She attended Holy Angels Academy in Richfield, MN and worked there for a year before entering the Monastery of St. Clare in Bloomington, MN. Archbishop Harold Henry of Korea invited sisters from there to found the first Poor Clare Monastery in Korea. Sister Mary Diane was among the first to volunteer. She eventually became a cofounder of two Monasteries in South Korea.

Sister Mary Diane died of a stroke and pneumonia while attending a meeting of all the Poor Clare Sisters in Korea at the original monastery on Jeju Island.

"A humble, charming Lady, she had charisma, compassion, and every virtue." (Roberta Keating Anderson)
