Elefio, of Lower San Pedro, was predeceased by daughter Sarah Salazar; parents Alfredo and Bersabe Abeyta; and brothers: Alfredito and Henry Abeyta.

Elefio was survived by children: Marie Homan, Elefio "Fofo" Abeyta Jr. (wife Mary Ann) all of Lower San Pedro, Debbie Valdez (husband Anthony) of La Mesilla, Veronica Sisneros (husband Michael) of Española, Leo Martinez of Upper San Pedro and Alfredo Abeyta (wife Sandra) of Albuquerque; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters: Diolinda Brown (husband Orlando) of Las Vegas, New Mexico and Corrine Martinez (husband Celso) of San Pedro; brother Belarmino Abeyta of San Pedro; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Memorial Mass was on 4 Nov 2003 at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial was in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
