PASSING OF THE PIONEERS DEATH OF MRS. ANNIE JUSTIN

One by one the old hands—the fine, hardy pioneers of the Braidwood district—are passing on, the last to hear the call being Mrs. A. Justin, widow of the late Const. Justin, at the age of 74 years. The old lady, who was liked and respected by everyone who knew her, was born at Braidwood. She was a daughter of the late Mr. Charles O'Loughlin, who was one of the first settlers in the Braidwood district. The late Const. Justin was stationed at Braidwood many years ago, and also at Moruya, Michelago, Stockinbingal and Young. He was accidentally killed at the last-named town in 1905. The late Mrs. Justin had been on a
visit to her son , Laurie, at Nimmitabel. While there she contracted a severe cold, and was admitted to the Cooma Hospital. She appeared to be making satisfactory progress, but later developed double pneumonia, and passed peacefully away on Friday morning last. Her long life had been devoted to her family and to her church. Some 13 months ago she suffered a stunning shock by the tragic loss of her daughter, Dorrie, to whom she was devoted. The old lady never recovered from the blow. She lived quietly in Braidwood, taking little part in public activities, but assisting to the best of her ability in the town's various efforts and in the different charitable movements. A family of four sons, viz., Charles (Sydney), John (Braidwood), Laurie (Nimmitabel) and Robert (Sydney), and one daughter (Mrs. McLeod, of Carrathool), survive to mourn the loss of a loving and devoted mother. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. Mangelsdorf (Canowindra) and Mrs. M. Dempsey (Queensland). The funeral on Sunday was largely attended, mourners coming from Nimmitabel, Cooma and Ulladulla. The remains were brought from Cooma on Saturday, being placed in St. Bede's Church. Rev. Fr. Devine conducted the last sad rites at the graveside. Many beautiful wreaths were laid on the grave, further testifying to the high esteem in which the old lady was held.
