Alonzo came to Wentworth NH as a toddler. He was a physician like his father Thomas, graduating from the medical school at Dartmouth College in 1832. He started his medical practice in Wentworth on upper Main Street and then took over his father's practice on the town commons in 1835. He continued his association with the college in Hanover, lecturing at the college and mentoring some of his students. He was associated with Dr. Reuben Mussey who left his professorship in Hanover in 1838 to practice and teach in Cincinnati and Boston. He could not however persuade Alonzo to leave his beloved Wentworth and his patients of Grafton County. He was also an associate of Dr. Peter Hoyt of Wentworth.

Alonzo married a half-cousin, Deborah Parker, daughter of Elisha Parker in 1834 in Bradford VT. Eight children were born of this union.

Dr Whipple was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives 1854-1856 and was active in town affairs. Like his father before him, he could preach a church sermon from memory and quote from the great orators. He was very sharp witted and a well-respected member of the community. He did not travel much out of his beloved village except when civic duties or his patients called for his services.

In the 1880 census Alonzo was widowed age 69, Father born NH, Mother born VT. Also in the household were children Mary Frances 32, keeping house, and Walter G., 26, sawmill worker.

Dr. Whipple was said to become somewhat eccentric in his latter years after his wife died. He suffered from gout and inflamation in the joints. He was buried in the Wentworth Village Cemetery in the back row with a small unassuming stone that reads "Dr Alonzo Whipple Died 1887 Ae 75". He was buried next to his wife and children.
