William J. Kane, Sr.

Age 65, of New Castle, entered eternal life on Sunday July 16, 2000 at the Christiana Hospital with his devoted family at his side.

Bill retired from the City of Wilmington Fire Dept. as a Deputy Chief in 1983 after 25 years of dedicated service. For the next 10 years, he was employed by the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington and enjoyed his association and friendship as part of the St. Mark's High School family. Bill was a member of St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1957. He enjoyed the time spent at his summer residence in Rehoboth. Bill dearly loved and cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. Some of his most treasured moments include his trips to Ireland and listening to his Irish music.

He is survived by his "bride" of 44 years, Mary Ann Brogan Kane; his daughters, Mary Ann O'Neill and Patricia K. Preston, both of Newark; his sons, William J. Kane, Jr. and Michael J. Kane, Sr., both of Wilmington; his sisters, Dolores A. "Sis" Bader of Wilmington, Kathleen A. Krupa of Roselle and Agnes V. Workman of Richardson Park; his brothers, John R. "Jack" Kane of New Castle, Joseph W. Kane of Elsmere, Paul R. Kane, Sr. of Hockessin and Thomas J. Kane, Sr. of Middletown; and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Agnes V. Kane and his brothers, James F. Kane, Jr. and Robert J. Kane, Sr.

Bill had a unique personality and humor that would bring a smile to anyone he met. He will be dearly missed.
