VETERAN
WORLD WAR II

Early Life: Grant was born April 7, 1922, in Hinckley, Utah, to John Warne Reeve and Mary Lyman Reeve. He spent his youth in Hinckley and graduated from Hinckley High School in 1940 in a class of 35. He was the valedictorian but was unable to give his speech because he got the measles. His challenges included measles, mumps, diphtheria, whooping cough, appendicitis and small pox. At age 12, he also lost his father; with 12 brothers and sisters there were difficult and meager times as a family.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: He was married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple to his third grade sweetheart, Lola Dawn Wright, on January 4, 1945. She passed away in 1984. He then married Ann Lyman McQueen in 1985. She passed away in 2008. Grant served in the United States Navy as a flight instructor from 1942 to 1945. He graduated from the University of Utah in political science and worked toward a master’s degree in educational psychology. His career included starting businesses, mailman, and air traffic controller. He also enjoyed following the stock market daily even until his last weeks of life. Grant raised his family in the Avenues of Salt Lake City and Fremont, California. He has pockets of friends in all the places he has lived, including West Jordan where he and Ann lived for two decades. Grant was an active and happy member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding callings including bishop, high councilor, stake clerk, ward choir director, teacher, nursery leader and temple ordinance worker. He is known as “Grant-pa” by many of his posterity. He loved music and sang hymns every morning. He served a mission with his wife, Ann, in the Family History Center and also appeared in an LDS commercial. Grant Lyman Reeve passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2017, in Cedar Hills, Utah, from complications of a broken femur and from living nearly 95 years to the fullest.
