"Maxine Bertrand Douglas, age 84, of Talpa, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at her residence. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Talpa Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

"She was born Maxine Joyce Bertrand on January 28, 1932 in Tom Green County, Texas, a daughter of Otis Craig Bertrand and Bonnie Imogene Bennett Bertrand. She grew up in Carlsbad, Presidio and Talpa and graduated from Talpa High School in 1949. She then attended and graduated from Draughon’s Business College in Abilene. While attending school in Abilene, she worked as a waitress at The Dixie Pig and also at the bus station. On March 1, 1953 she married Clarence Edward Douglas in San Angelo and he preceded her in death in 1996. Maxine lived in many places until returning to live in Coleman County in 1966. She worked for Dr. F. C. Cabansag as a nurse’s aide and bookkeeper for many years. She had been a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Santa Anna for over 50 years.

"She is survived by five children, Julia Marie Cody and husband Daniel of Talpa, Wayne Allen Douglas of Coleman, Sandra Lynn Martin of Houston, Kathey Lea Rose of Talpa and Michael Richard Douglas of Talpa; thirteen grandchildren, Richard Cody, Jennifer Mitchell, Marcus Cody, Crystal White, Robbie Robinson, Deborah Robinson, Brandon Robinson, Nancy Martin, Kari Mellor, Miranda Pauli, Jake Stewart, Johnny Stewart and Taylor Douglas; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.

"She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Edward Rose, Jr. in 2008, a step-granddaughter, Zoe Marie in 2012; and two brothers, Leldon Lamar Bertrand and Albert Henry Bertrand.

"Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas."
