Mrs Gertrude Kiffe, seventy-eight years of age died some time during last night at the home of her son, George Kiffe in Mankato township. She was feeling well last evening when she went to bed, but it is thought that apoplexy caused her death during the night. She had been visiting her son in order to get a little of the country air, and death was un thought of last evening as she complained of no pains and did not appear to be indisposed.

The deceased was seventy-eight years of age, and was one of the pioneer settlers in Blue Earth county, and passed through the Indian outbreaks. She was born in Westphalia, Germany, September 1, 1834. She came to America when but a young girl, and in 1855, married George Kiffe, at St Charles Missouri. She lived at St Charles with her husband until April 8, 1856, and then moved to Mankato, arriving here on May 19, 1856. They settled on the old homestead, now adjoining the city limits.

She moved to the city with her husband in June, 1896, and has lived here ever since. Her husband died March 28, 1904. She has lived at 118 North Fifth street since coming to Mankato.

Deceased is survived by seven sons, Henry of North Dakota, George, of Mankato township, Leo and Frank of this city, John, a baggage man on the Omaha railroad, Louis, who conducts a farm at Ray, ND, and four daughters, Mrs Timothy Curtin, who lives on a farm near Marshfield, Wis, Sister M. Aquina of Notre Dame convent at West Alice, Wis, Miss Anna Kiffe of Pendleton, Ore, and Mrs John Deglemann of this city. Deceased was also survived by a brother, Henry Amtmann of Missouri.

Mrs Kiffe was a member of the married ladies' sodality of the St Peter and St Paul's Catholic Church, and also a member of the St Elizabeth Aid society and the Altar Aid Society, and was one of the charter members of the St Peter and St Paul Catholic parish.

The funeral will be held at nine o'clock Monday morning from Ss Peter and Paul's church.
