Helen Lucille Barkley was born on May 5, 1926 at Garden City, SD to William and Alma (Johnson) Barkley. She married Kenneth Aker on August 31, 1945 at Pipestone, MN. He preceded in death in 1981. She married Eugene Halverson on February 13, 1970. She died at Bethel Lutheran Home on April 9, 2015 at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 4 days.She grew up in Garden City graduating from Garden City High School. They moved to Madison in 1950 where she worked in customer service at various business.She was a member of St John WELCA. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, crocheting and dancing. She is survived by her husband - Eugene of Madison, four daughters - Lee Ann (Gary) Stofferahn of DeSmet, SD Cheri (Mark) Mergen of Dell Rapids, Tammy Selgestad of Madison and Barb (Chris) Mergen of Dell Rapids, 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, her twin brother - Harold (Corrine) Barkley of Minneapolis, MN. Four step sons - Mike (Laine) Halverson of Sioux Falls, Jim (RoseAnne) Halverson of San Diego, CA, Bob Halverson of Madison and Tom (Sandra) Halverson of Orlando, FL. One step daughter - Anne (Mike) Hurst of Benecia, CA. 8 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son - Kenneth Darroll in 1989 an infant daughter, 3 brothers and 1 sister.Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 13, 2015 at St John Lutheran Church with Rev Elizabeth Pagnotta officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.The family will be present on Sunday at 5:00 PM at Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
