OBITUARY — MRS. MELINDA HECOX.
Mrs. Melinda Hecox, relict of the late Charles L. Hecox, died at the residence of her sister, Mrs. E. J. Gordon, on Thursday last of heart failure, aged 74 years. In the passing of Mrs. Hecox a beautiful life ended. A noble Christian woman whose life was unselfishly spent in an endeavor to do all the good possible, and her memory will long be revered by the many who have listened to her counsels and have been the recipients of her ministrations. The decedent had been a resident of this city since 1869, moving here from Fallasburg, Kent county, with her husband who died in 1872. She was known to all the older residents in Greenville and enjoyed an extensive acquaintance throughout the state. Her death came without warning while peacefully sleeping and was without pain. While her sudden demise was a shock to relatives and friends, they are comforted with the blessed assurance that it was the way she had desired to go, having so expressed herself to her children. Of her immediate relatives two sisters, Mrs. E. J. Gordon, of this city, and Mrs. Phoebe Purdy, of Grattan; and five children — Don A. of Spruce, F. Marion of Ionia, LeRoy E. of Montcalm, Charles L. of Columbus, Ohio, and Clyde W. of Sault Ste Marie, survive her. The funeral occurred from the residence of E. J. Gordon. Clay street at 2 p. m. Saturday, Rev. D. E. Hills preaching the sermon. The interment was in Forest Home cemetery. The sons were all present except Don. The remains of the late Charles L. Hecox were removed, this week from the cemetery at Alton, Kent county and laid beside those of his wife in Forest Home.
