He attended Bluefield College, was a retired administrative assistant at Norfolk Southern, Past Master of the Bluefield Masonic Lodge #85 A.F.&A.M., Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, 32, honorary Kentucky Colonel, and a member of Preston Oaks Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle H. Caldwell; his father, Edward M. Caldwell; his first wife, Mabel Wooldridge Caldwell; a brother, Clarence L. Caldwell Sr., and an infant son.
Surviving are his wife, Annette S. Caldwell of Roanoke; a son, Carl K. Caldwell Jr. of Sanford, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. David (Darlene) Brown of Beckley, W.Va.; two stepdaughters, Kellie Miller of Nags Head, N.C., and Kimberly Allen of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Brian E. Caldwell, Eric D. Caldwell, Andrew D. Brown and Andrea D. Brown; two brothers and a sister, Roy E. Caldwell, Mrs. Bill (Virginia) Coburn and Hugh E. Caldwell.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, 1997, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Bob Alderman officiating. The family will receive friends at Oakey's North Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
