90 of Palm Aire of Sarasota, died Saturday, February 26, 2005. He was born on July 14, 1914 in Detroit, Michigan and came to Sarasota from Ocala in 1979. Joel was a graduate of Cass Tech High School, the University of Detroit and retired in 1976 after 39 years as a Mechanical Engineer at Ford Motor Company. He was also a life member of the F.A. & M. Masonic Lodge #2 in Detroit. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marjorie A. and his loving survivors include his children, Joel W. Maxey, Jr; Jane E. and her husband, Pete Peterson, son, Lee D. Maxey; his sister, Mrs Helen Shilland. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Erin Peterson and her husband Dan Fessahazion, Lauren Peterson and Alfred Peterson and his great-grandson, Ezra Fessahazion. Burial will be at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, Michigan. A Memorial Service will be planned in Michigan for family, close friends and associates on his 91st birthday. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the Congregational United Church of Christ in Bradenton or to the Salvation Army. Local arrangements are by Manasota Memorial Funeral Home.
