Thelma is survived by one brother, Clifton Young, of Thayer, Missouri, and several generations of Young and Weaver family members. Thelma is also survived by Tom's family, RoseMary, Autumn, Andy, Ashley, and grandkids. Also surviving are a multitude of friends, who will live on with precious memories of Thelma.
During her one hundred years of living, Thelma experienced many changes. While generally adaptive and open to change, she remained steadfast in her devotion to God, family, and friends. She was both mentally and physically able, and active, until the first of December, 2016. Her independence was altered by the complications of a stroke. Her prayers were answered, as she was able to be in her home for her passing.
Thelma was a successful business woman who shared the love of farming, and producing livestock, with Henry, for more than fifty years. Thelma was an owner and manager of profitable motels in Northeast Arkansas. She will be remembered as a generous, caring, energetic, and Godly woman. Her daily walk was with God, and as such, she spent her days being a friend, helper, and encourager. Thoughts of her will no doubt include her delight and competitive nature in domino playing, her enthusiasm for gardening (with the help of Tom, planting her last garden at 99 years of age), making and sharing her famous "made from scratch apple pies", and her mouthwatering, crunchy, peanut brittle.
Thelma was a woman who loved God, His Word, and His Church. She distinguished herself through service, leadership, and supporting church-related works. Missions were her passion. Her legacy can be furthered by gifts to the Gideon International Bible Distribution Organization. The Pocahontas First Baptist Church has agreed to help donor's direct memorials to that foundation by calling (870) 892-3758.
Memorial events will be at the Pocahontas First Baptist Church, on Monday evening, January 30, 2017. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 6:00 pm, in the church sanctuary. A funeral service will immediately follow visitation, and will begin at 6:00 pm; Eric Moffett, officiating. A Graveside Burial Service will begin at 11:00 am, at the McCullough Cemetery, in Sharp County, on Tuesday morning, January 31, 2017. Because of the distance, remote location, and rough roads, the immediate family will appreciate your prayers and understands the lack of your presence at the Graveside Service.
Honorary pallbearers are Isaac Weaver, Hayden Weaver, Elijah James Weaver, Jeremiah Henry Weaver, Rick Young, Marty Young, Harry Young, and Clifton Young.
