Mrs. Darby was educated in the Bartow County School System and was a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. She lived to sing praises and worship the Lord. Mother Darby was a God-fearing woman and a true believer of God's Word. She was also known for her fundraising abilities at church and for her humanitarian work in the community. Mother Darby used to cook meals for the homeless at First Presbyterian Church as well as cooking meals in her own home to deliver to those in need. She loved people, and whenever she saw someone in need, she would try to meet that need including taking people to the store or to the doctor.
Affectionately known as 'Big Momma', Mother Darby loved her family. She and her husband cared for their grandchildren. She also enjoyed fishing and could find fish wherever there was water to fish in. Mother Darby also always kept a garden, and she especially enjoyed her flowers. After raising her family, she began to work various jobs such as at Davis Brothers and at different department stores in the Town Center Mall. Mrs. Darby was also an entrepreneur as well as a newspaper carrier for The Daily Tribune.
Mother Darby leaves to cherish her memory her children, Dorothy Craig, Nathaniel C. Darby, Jr. and his wife, Corene, Hubert Darby and his wife, Florene, Ronnie E. Darby, Sarai Glover and her husband, Eddie, and Angellia D. Snow; her step-daughter, Lillian A. Beavers and her husband, Charlie; her sister, Annie Mae Johnson Rocquemore; her brother, J.W. Conners and his wife, Ann; and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and host of friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the Faith Temple Church of God in Christ with Elder John Blunt officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens and Mausoleum.
