Son of Robert and Mary (Taylor) Keyworth.
Robert W Keyworth attended Georgetown University in Montreal, Canada, where he became fluent in French. He was to West Point on July 1, 1849 by President James K Polk. Robert joined the Confederate Army in 1861 and rose to the rank of Major. While serving as a staff officer to Major General Earl VanDorn, he received a commendation for gallantry in battle at Thompson's Station, Tennessee. He later served as Quarter Master in Galveston, Texas.
Robert died of Yellow Fever and was buried in the Galveston cemetery on Broadway. However, his tombstone was one of the many that were washed away during the 1900 Hurricane that flooded all of Galveston.
He left 2 daughters, Mary and Anna by 1st wife Anna along with 2 yr old Kate and 6 month old Robert H. and his wife Mary Roberts Keyworth.
